Your information,
in plain language.
Reading the site
You can read Petro.UNO without creating an account. Our hosting provider may record standard access logs, such as IP address, requested page and time, to operate and secure the website.
The Energy Brief
If newsletter sign-ups are enabled, we collect your email address, consent timestamp and subscription status. A confirmation email verifies your address before your subscription becomes active. We use your address for The Energy Brief and do not sell the mailing list. Unsubscribe using the link in an email. Unsubscribing removes your subscriber record.
Privacy choices
We ask for optional choices once and remember acceptance or rejection in this browser, separately from login. Use Privacy settings to change them. Clearing browser storage, switching devices or blocking storage may cause another prompt. Essential security and form functions continue to work.
Preferences use a first-party cookie renewed for up to a year and browser local storage without a set expiry. We do not set a regular reminder to ask again.
Cookies
A session cookie protects forms and keeps an administrator signed in. It is not an advertising cookie. Admin sessions expire after one hour of inactivity.
Analytics
With your permission, this site uses Google Analytics to understand readership. Its tag loads only after you allow Analytics. Google may process browser, device and usage information and use cookies. See Google’s privacy policy for its practices.
Article insights and feedback
When enabled and permitted by your privacy choice, our own counters record aggregate page views and share-button actions so we can understand which subjects interest readers. They are separate from Google Analytics. To reduce repeated counts, we use short-lived hashes derived from a network address and browser signature; these counter tables do not store the raw address or browser signature. Counting keys expire after two hours and are removed during subsequent activity. Passive counters honour browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals.
Useful / not-yet feedback is optional. A random identifier in your existing session lets you change your vote without adding another vote in that session. Feedback tokens are retained for up to 90 days and removed during subsequent feedback activity; aggregate totals remain. These features do not use advertising cookies or send their data to Google.
Reader comments
To submit a comment, provide a display name, email and text. Your name and approved comment are public. Your email stays private to the editorial team and is used for moderation and privacy requests, not newsletter subscriptions. All submissions are reviewed before publication. If we reply, the reply appears publicly beneath your approved comment.
Comments and their private email addresses remain stored until we delete them or the article. You can request deletion using the contact below. Rate-limiting keys are hashed and expire after an hour; old keys are removed during later submissions. The hosting provider’s access logs are separate.
Advertising and affiliate links
When enabled, we display clearly labelled advertising, sponsored placements, affiliate recommendations or promotions for our own projects. We may earn a commission from qualifying purchases through affiliate links. Advertisers do not determine our editorial conclusions.
With your permission, our local campaign counters record aggregate impressions and outbound clicks. An impression requires at least half of a placement to be visible for one second in an active browser tab. Repeated events count once per fixed half-hour window using the same short-lived keyed hashes described above. Recognised bots, signed-in admins, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control are excluded. Aggregate counts remain until a campaign is deleted; editing a campaign does not reset its counts. Local counters are separate from Google and do not add advertising cookies.
When Google AdSense is enabled and you allow Google ads, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or device information to deliver, measure and personalise ads, subject to applicable choices. Google privacy messages provide choices where configured and applicable. See Google’s advertising privacy information. Our AdSense placements are suppressed when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. Other sites reached through advertisements have their own privacy practices.
